How Goal Reports Help Increase Revenue

Setting up goals in Analytics can help you step up your game

Let’s face it.  The final measure of success for just about every website is how many conversions take place on it.

The Goals report makes it easy to determine how many visitors are completing desired actions on your website such as signing up for a newsletter, filling out a request for information form, or making a purchase.

Google Analytics allows you to specify up to 4 goals for your website.  Depending on how your website is set up, setting up goals can be very simple or can get complicated. This article doesn’t cover actual setup of your goals in Google Analytics.  If you’re unsure as to how to set up goals in Google Analytics, please contact us or your own web design company for assistance.

Google Analytics Goals Report

Once you’ve set goals up on Google Analytics you can start viewing them as a metric by which to measure your website’s success.

Goal Report Analysis & Insights

With the goal report you can get a pretty good idea of how well your website is converting.  For the example above you can see that there were 8 newsletter sign-ups, 4 whitepaper downloads, and 4 requests for information that month.
This basic report will allow you to determine if something is wrong with your conversion points.  For example if normally you net between 12 to 15 conversions per month and suddenly you see 2 or more consecutive months where those conversions have dipped below average, it might be time to take a look at the page itself to find out what the problem is; especially if you’ve recently made changes to your website.

You can also use the Goal Report to monitor changes you make to pages that contribute to your conversions such as landing pages, sign-up forms, or download pages.

Make a change on the page and then use the conversions report to see if they’ve increased or decreased substantially.  Just like the keyword report though, make only one change at a time and then monitor your stats.
